The Classic Wash

1. Mix the powder with warm water in a non-metallic bowl to a smooth, thin slurry.
2. Apply to a wet scalp, then add water with your fingers to emulsify.
3. Massage for 60-90 seconds, then leave it 5-10 minutes.
4. Rinse thoroughly. In hard water, a quick second pass often improves the feel.

What to Pair It With

• For a stronger cleanse, pair it with Aritha.
• For volume and balance, add Amla.
• For extra slip and softness, blend in Aloe Vera.
• Start around 60-80% shikakai and adjust by how your hair feels. Avoid heavy oils in the wash phase - they reduce cleansing power.

How to Maximise Freshness

This is a natural product with no preservatives, so moisture is the enemy. Seal the pouch tightly after every use and store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

The Essential Patch Test

Keep shikakai away from your eyes - saponins sting sharply. Tilt your head back when rinsing, and flush with plenty of plain water if any paste gets in. Patch test 24-48 hours before first use. Very dry or delicate hair does better with short contact times and a lighter mix, and shikakai should be kept off broken or irritated skin. The dry powder is a fine dust, so mix it in a ventilated space. Cosmetic use only. For external use on hair and scalp; do not ingest.
